Text Box: History Fact:
Irvine was originally known as the 20 Mile Post.  That name was used because it was a trading post about 20 miles from Medicine Hat.  The town was later named Irvine after Colonel A. Irvine, a commissioner of the North West Mounted Police.  Colonel Irvine was with General Middleton during the Northwest Rebellion.
