COUNCIL NEWS Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) - In 2007 the Province of Alberta announced a 10 year commitment to provide municipalities with sustainable funding to assist them in meeting the challenges of growth and enhancing their long-term sustainability. There is operational funding and capital funding. In 2007 the County received $2.5 Million and has been allocated $4.8 Million in 2010. Click here to see a detailed list of expenditures. Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) - The County is currently in the process of creating a long term plan for the future viability of the municipality. The ICSP is required to continue receiving Federal and Provincial grants. Input from the public is a very important part of this process. Therefore, a survey was done to gather ideas from the community on what the County should look like in the future. The Plan is now complete. Water & Sewer Services Bylaw - This bylaw has been changed significantly in recent years. In January, 2008, rates were increased substantially to recover a greater portion of the system operating costs. A three tier rate structure for water was also instituted to encourage conservation. A moderate rate increase occurred in 2009 and council recently increased rates for 2010. The first 40m3 of water now costs $0.95/m3, the next 100m3 costs $1.15/m3 and any amount over 140m3 costs $1.35/m3. The complete schedule of rates and charges are at the end of the bylaw. A New Dunmore Park - At the December 1, 2009 meeting, council approved a grant guarantee of $3,085.00 for the Dunmore Community Association to construct a tot park playground in Eagleridge. It will be located at the north end of Eagleridge Drive on land donated by Peter Wilde. The Association will now apply to the Community Facility Enhancement Program to complete funding for the $175,000 project. Reeve's Annual Report for 2008 - The County has almost completed replacement of the fire truck fleet, continues to improve roads, is working hard to upgrade water facilities and is nearing completion of the Tri-Area Intermunicipal Development Plan. The Municipal Millrate remaines unchanged for 25 years. View the Report. Redcliff Annexation - After nearly two years of negotiations, open houses, a public hearing and months of deliberation by the Municipal Government Board, an Alberta Government Order in Council (OC 15/2009) has approved the annexation of nearly 1,900 acres from Cypress County into the Town of Redcliff. The order is effective January 1,2009. View the order and map of the area. Desert Blume Parks - October 1, 2009 - Progress is slowly being made with the Developer to have the parks established to the agreed standard. Irrigation water agreements with the golf course are being negotiated. On Aug 19, 2008, Council approved the development of the first nine parks in Desert Blume. The main neighbourhood park will be adjacent to Desert Blume Gate in the northeast area of the hamlet. The park consists of play structures, which are safety approved, 3.0m asphalt trail, garbage bin, and park benches. The area will be landscaped with irrigated grass, trees, and shrubs. The play area will be landscaped with pea size rock. Most of the other park areas will be left primarily in a natural state. COUNCIL DIRECTORY
