All About Addressing!
Why an address and
how it works
The sign comes with a 2 metre long mounting post with
hardware. You are requested to
install this post within 1 month of receiving it.
It should be placed on the right hand side of the main approach to the
property, either no more than 0.3 metres in front of the property line, or
attached to the main fence post approximately 1.2 metres above the ground.
Country
Residential Addressing (Acreages)
Staff have
assigned addresses and delivered signs to multi-parcel country residential
subdivisions. The address system for these parcels is similar to that of
an apartment building. The first number refers to your house number, the second
number refers to the access number. The third number is the main road number.
The County has placed these signs displaying the access and main road number at
every multi-parcel subdivision access. Named Subdivisions
For consistency of
identification, 9-1-1 and Canada Post require addresses to consist of unique
house, access, and main road numbers. However, many country residential
subdivisions already have informal names such as Eagle Butte Estates or Cityview
Acres. Your Council has decided that these names may also be displayed on the
main road access sign along with the official address. Although the name will be
formally registered with the County, only your official address will be
acceptable for location purposes
If a name-address
sign is requested the cost will be $125.00.
In order to have a name-address sign, all residents of the subdivision
must sign a petition requesting the subdivision name and present it to the
Planning Department with the required fee.
A number of subdivisions also have informal house numbers that were
distributed by the original developer. The county has no record of these
numbers and they are not valid. They seldom fit within the official addressing
system, which is based on a province wide standard. The correct house number is
the one shown on your sign.
If you have any further questions, please contact the Cypress
County Planning Department.
