Waste & Recycling  

 

      

Cypress County's 8 solid-waste transfer sites accept household waste.  General household garbage is to be placed into the garbage bins.  These bins are hauled to the Redcliff Cypress Regional Landfill where the material is covered daily.  Certain items listed below, are to be separated and placed in the designated area.

  • Milk containers, have been collected for years as part of a provincial recycling program.  On June 1, 2009, they became part of the beverage container program where they can be returned for cash.

  • Appliances with doors removed (refrigerant must have been removed from fridges & freezers)

  • Automobile bodies

  • Batteries

  • Newsprint and mixed paper, a recycling initiative available at the Dunmore Transfer Site only, on a trial basis

  • Oil and oil filters, part of the Used Oil Management Association program

  • Paint cans that still contain paint, with new rules that started April 1, 2008

  • Tires, gathered for recycling, then shredded and made into new products

  • Tree branches, which are burned in an on-site burning pit (except Dunmore & Suffield) approved by Alberta Environment, saving significant space in the landfill

 

  • Electronics, such as TV's and computers, may be delivered on specially announced pick up days to be recycled

 

The Alberta Government recently announced a new waste reduction strategy, called Too Good To Waste.  Any changes to the County's waste management program will only occur at the direction of Council.
