Cypress County Agricultural Services

Bursaries, Grants and Awards

The Agricultural Service Board is pleased to have programs that promote youth, assist with educational costs and recognize leaders in the community.  This is done with two $1000 agricultural bursaries available to high school students continuing their education at a post secondary institution and with an annual $500 4-H grant to the Southeast Alberta Regional 4-H Council.  Four grants covering registration and accommodation costs to attend FarmTech 2009 are available to interested farmers upon application.  The annual Farm Family Award recognizes families in the County who are good farmers and are very active in their community.

Two $1000 Agricultural Bursaries
are available annually to students wishing to continue their education at College or University in an agricultural or home economics program.  Applicants must live in Cypress County, the City of Medicine Hat or the Town of Redcliff.  Applicants must complete an application form, plus provide a list of Grade 12 marks, a letter of acceptance from a College/University, and a list of planned courses.  Deadline for submitting applications is September 1.  In late September, the Agricultural Service Board will award these two bursaries upon the recommendation of the Cypress County Agricultural Fieldman, based on scholastic standing, social and community activities.  For further information, contact the Ag. Fieldman at ph. 403-526-2888.

You may also want to apply for the Association of Alberta Agricultural Fieldmen Memorial Bursary.  Students of Medicine Hat College transferring to a Bsc. program at a University Faculty of Agriculture should apply for the SE Branch Alberta Institute of Agrologists Scholarship

There are also $1,000 scholarships available from AAMD&C and Cypress County Council  for students entering post secondary education.

Farm Family Award

The focus of this award is to recognize outstanding southern Alberta farm families who typify the value of the family farmer to rural communities and society in general.  The local ASB nominates a FARM FAMILY that must be active in primary agriculture, have agriculture as a main source of income and live on the farm.  Criteria for consideration include use of modern farming/ranching practices, involvement in upgrading courses AND involvement in the community.

This award helps to promote a relationship between urban and rural people.  It is sponsored by the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede with presentations made at the stampede in Calgary.  Another presentation is made at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede.
