| Cypress County Agricultural
Services
Agricultural Chemical Container Collection Sites Since the early 1980's, a system has been in place for farmers in the county to properly dispose of their empty agricultural chemical jugs. This is part of a provincial program to ensure that empty pesticide containers do not harm the environment. Details of the local program are listed below. The containers are picked up at least once each year by a contractor hired by Alberta Environment. The containers are shredded, taken to a plant where they are washed, and then the plastic is recycled into products such as fence posts. |

The County maintains
three Permanent
Agricultural Chemical Container
Collection Sites to encourage farmers to dispose of their herbicide,
insecticide and rodenticide jugs in an environmentally safe manner. One
site is located at the Irvine Solid Waste Transfer Station (on Twp Rd 120,
about 1 km east of Brock Street, Irvine), a second site is located at Lakeside
Fertilizers (on Rge Rd 63, about 0.7 km south of Highway #523 - the
Holsom Road) and a third site is located at the Schuler Solid Waste Transfer
Station (on Range Rd 14, 1.6 km north of Schuler).
There is also a temporary Agricultural Chemical Container Collection Site located at
the Redcliff/Cypress Regional
Landfill. All commercial pesticide containers, metal or plastic, can be deposited in these sites. All containers must be triple rinsed. Paper bags and cardboard boxes are to be placed in the adjacent garbage bin. If cardboard boxes are clean, they may be taken to a recycling depot. Commercial pesticide containers are not to be burned, landfilled or deposited in a garbage bin at any time. Domestic pesticide containers (such as small bottles of dandelion spray for your lawn) can be disposed with regular household garbage.
