Waste & recycling

The county has seven solid-waste transfer sites that accept household waste and recyclables. General household garbage is to be placed in the bins. These bins are hauled to the Redcliff Cypress Regional Landfill.
 
County residents wishing to have the transfer site bin safety gates opened to accommodate their trailers must complete the waiver form.

Door to door garbage pick-up is available in Desert Blume and Irvine.
Door to door garbage and recycling pick-up is available in Suffield.

Desert Blume - pickup details
$32 per two months
Tuesday set out by 7 a.m.
IrvineResidential - $18 per two months
Commercial - $21 per two months
Wednesday set out by 9 a.m. (2024 exception, Dec. 24 instead of Dec. 25)
Suffield - pickup details and recyclable materials list
Garbage - $22 per two months
Recycling - $19 per two months
Wednesday set out by 7 a.m.
Recycling every second week (see calendar)

Recyclable cardboard may be collected at the following transfer sites: Dunmore, Elkwater, Hilda, Irvine, Schuler, Seven Persons and Walsh.

Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (no loads accepted after 5:15 p.m.)
Saturday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (no loads accepted after 3:45 p.m.)

Recycling

*Plastic recycling is currently suspended at transfer sites due to shipping and purchasing. The plastic recycling bins will be returned to the transfer sites as soon as the program resumes. Apologies for any inconvenience caused during this time.*

All transfer sites accept appliances, batteries, cardboard, clean wood (untreated with no paint, nails, or furniture), e-waste, metal (all), paint, (used) oil and filters, tree branches (up to 12 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length), tires, and wire.

Regional landfill passcards
When the local waste transfer site is closed, or for larger loads, residents can haul their refuse to the Redcliff Cypress Regional Landfill. Residents can request a landfill pass card from the county office, which allows them to haul into the landfill, without paying scale charges, to a maximum of $252 per year.
